Ahead of the 2024 governorship poll in Edo State, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, Mrs Victoria Amu, has disclosed her intention to step down from the governorship race.

Amu, who commended the Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Mr Adams Oshiomole, for excellent management of APC’s matters, said she would no longer purchase the party’s nomination forms.

According to her, she would abide by the APC’s decisions.

She noted that the party’s resolutions were larger than any individual’s ambitions, saying: “While I am passionate about the prospect of serving the good people of Edo State as their governor, I want to make it unequivocally clear that my ambition is not greater than the supremacy of our party. The APC’s collective goals and the well-being of the people of Edo State are of utmost importance to me. I am fully aligned with the party’s vision and principles.

“Party supremacy is a fundamental principle that guides our democratic process. I am fully committed to upholding this principle and contributing to the success of the APC in Edo State. Our collective strength lies in unity, and together, we will build a party that truly represents the aspirations of the people.

“As a loyal and committed member of the APC, I want to reassure everyone that I will abide by the decisions of our great party. The APC’s internal processes, including primaries and other party mechanisms, are essential for maintaining democracy and ensuring that our collective goals are achieved. I am fully aligned with the party’s values and will wholeheartedly support the candidate chosen by the APC.

“Party unity is paramount as we approach the 2024 elections. I am dedicated to working collaboratively with party members, leaders, and stakeholders to ensure a strong and united APC in Edo State. Together, we will continue to build a party that represents the aspirations of the people.”

While thanking the state’s APC leader and a former governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, she hailed his leadership qualities and assured him of her eagerness to actively contribute to the party’s success.

According to her, “I appreciate this opportunity to share my thoughts on the party’s screening process for the Edo 2024 Governorship race.

“Firstly, I commend your management of the party as our national leader and your initiative in handling numerous aspirants fairly. Comrade sir, despite being screened out, I affirm my commitment to abide by the party’s decision on the recent screening, selection, and criteria adopted.

“In various forums, I’ve emphasised my respect for your leadership both as former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who appointed me as a Senior Special Assistant and now as the Distinguished Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District where I hail from.

“I also want to acknowledge the integrity, experience, and commitment of the screening committee, led by Professor Julius Ihonvbere. Whatever decision they reach, I will abide by it because I believe they are championing this election with a progressive and development-based agenda.

“Therefore, despite stepping down from the race and no longer purchasing my nomination forms scheduled for Monday next week, it’s crucial to note that I remain committed to supporting whoever emerges as the primary winner. I am a dedicated party member and will continue to be.”
