Nigeria’s flag bearer in CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, have been handed a tough group in the competition from the draw held yesterday in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Nigerian representatives will battle it out with Tunisia’s Club Africain, who won the CAF Champions League (then the African Cup of Champions Clubs) in 1991 and are experienced continental campaigners, as well as Ghana’s Dream FC and APC Lobito from Angola.

They are in Group C, from where the top two teams after six rounds of home-and-away fixtures will advance to the quarterfinals.

In Group A, Algeria’s USM Alger will vie for the quarterfinal tickets with Al Hilal of Libya, South Africa’s SuperSport United and Modern Future of Egypt.

Egypt’s Zamalek, Sagrada Esperanca of Angola, SOAR of Guinea and Abu Salem of Libya make up Group C.

In Group D, RS Berkane of Morocco, who eliminated Nigeria’s Bendel Insurance in the qualifying rounds, Diables Noirs of Congo, Mali’s Stade Malien and Sekhukhune United of South Africa will compete for two spots.
