Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has promised to revitalise cocoa production in the state with a view to boosting its economy.

He, therefore, unveiled what he termed a comprehensive cocoa revival agenda of his administration as a major contributor to boosting agricultural production in the state.

Adeleke, who spoke through the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Tola Faseru, as a guest speaker at the International Cocoa Conference in Lagos, described the importance of cocoa to the diversification of Nigerian economy and recalled how Obafemi Awolowo developed the old Western Region with earnings from cocoa production.

The governor, while unveiling the comprehensive agenda of his administration to revitalise cocoa production in the state, said that cocoa-producing states had a direct challenge and obligation to introduce new innovations that would help to revive the sector and increase productivity level of cocoa farmers.

Meanwhile, amid condemnations that have greeted his appointment as Chairman of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Hashim Abioye, yesterday, assured that he would be impartial in conducting the forthcoming council elections in the state.

Abioye, who spoke on a radio station monitored by The Guardian in Osogbo, said: “Even if my appointment was defective, it doesn’t affect the work of the agency. That is what they (critics) don’t know.”

He said he had resigned his membership from the PDP immediately he got wind of his appointment to head the electoral body, urging stakeholders in the state not to see him as being partisan.
