The Nigeria Police Force has assured residents of Rivers State of its commitment to maintaining peace and security following the state of emergency declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 18, 2025.
According to a press statement issued by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the declaration was a necessary response to the 22-month-long political crisis that had pushed the state to a tipping point, posing serious risks to national security.
In response, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the immediate deployment of additional personnel and resources to the state. The police, in collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, will work to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure from any form of disruption.
The statement emphasized that while individuals have the right to seek legal redress, any attempt to exploit the situation through unlawful gatherings, protests, or actions that threaten public peace will be met with the full force of the law.
Residents have been urged to remain law-abiding and go about their daily activities without fear, while security forces stand ready to take decisive action against any threats to stability. The public is also encouraged to report suspicious activities to help safeguard the state.
