Police in Bayelsa State have launched a manhunt for a suspected internet fraudster after a young woman was found dead in a hotel room in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa.
According to reports, the deceased had checked into the hotel on Saturday with a young man believed to be a Yahoo boy. Shortly after they arrived, the suspect allegedly fled the premises, leaving the woman behind.
Hotel staff discovered the woman’s lifeless body and immediately alerted the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters. The incident has caused panic in the community.
Police spokesperson, Musa Muhammad, confirmed the case and said investigations are ongoing. “An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, and we’re making serious efforts to apprehend the suspect,” he stated.
He added that CCTV footage from the hotel and witness statements are being reviewed to identify and track the suspect. Muhammad urged hotel operators to tighten security protocols, including identity verification of guests, to help prevent similar incidents.
Community members have expressed shock over the growing trend of violence allegedly linked to internet fraudsters. Some residents are calling for stricter regulation of hotels and increased police patrols in the area to deter future crimes.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, and authorities are calling on anyone with useful information to come forward. Her body has been deposited at a morgue pending further investigation.
