Coordinator, United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC), Lagos chapter, Nzeribe Okegbue, yesterday, emphasised the role of parents in training children and curbing social vices.
He said this during a yearly outreach for girls and boys at correctional centres in Lagos
Nzeribe said if the family unit can get things right, the pressure and circumstances that cause children to be put in correctional homes would be greatly reduced.
“Correcting and training children should first start from the home. Parents should not wait for children to depreciate in value and morals before looking for a solution. They should do their best in nurturing and guiding them, so they don’t get involved in bad practices and rough life very young,” he said.
He said the reformation of children at the centers is everyone’s responsibility, adding that the need for good role models and constant showing of care to kids is also paramount.
He said UN-POLAC, under the leadership of Director General, Halo Eton, and Country President, Funmilayo Adesanya Davies, advocates peace, security, and better living for all.
Items such as rice, noodles, milk and vegetable oil were donated at the event.
