Oyo State has paid Osun State ₦5 billion as part of the ₦8 billion agreement to assume full ownership of Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, said the state has been paying ₦1 billion annually and aims to complete the payment by 2027. The ownership deal, struck in November 2020, ended years of conflict between the states. Since then, LAUTECH has risen to become Nigeria’s top state university.
Oyelade emphasized that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has remained committed to the terms of the agreement, reflecting its dedication to education and institutional growth. He noted that the university’s development has accelerated under Oyo’s sole control.
He also praised the cooperation of the Osun State Government in the handover process, describing it as a rare example of political maturity and regional collaboration. The Commissioner reiterated the Makinde-led administration’s determination to fully settle the remaining ₦3 billion before the end of its tenure.
