Nigerian Boxer Gabriel Olanrewaju Collapses, Dies During Fight in Ghana

Tragedy struck in the boxing world as Nigerian professional boxer Gabriel “Success” Olanrewaju collapsed and died during a match in Ghana on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

 

Olanrewaju, a former National and West African light heavyweight champion, was competing in an undercard bout against John Mbagunu in Ghana’s Professional Boxing League at the Bukom Boxing Arena when he suddenly slumped in the ring. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead shortly after.

 

The 39-year-old boxer had a professional record of 13 wins, 8 losses, and 2 draws. Known for his resilience and dedication to the sport, he was a respected figure in Nigerian boxing.
