LAMATA delivering sustainable, integrated transportation to Lagosians

Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), as part of efforts to mark its milestone of clocking 20, hosted a forum for stakeholders in the transportation industry.

The event attended by representatives of the Lagos State government, private sector and stakeholders in transport industry who x-rayed activities of the agency in the last 20 years and chart a course for its future.

Speaking at the event, themed, “LAMATA yesterday, today and tomorrow, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi commended LAMATA for its commitment to delivering sustainable, integrated transportation to Lagosians.”

The event also featured a panel session where the panelists discussed the key presentation by the Director, Centre for Multimodal Transportation (UNILAG), Professor Iyiola Oni.

Earlier, during a briefing, the Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, acknowledged the vision of those behind the establishment of LAMATA, especially the then Lagos State Governor, now President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, who was part of the birth and currently driving that vision.

“I also acknowledge the contribution of Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, CON, for his foresight in starting the construction of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line. We thank his successor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for starting the Bus Reform Initiative, starting with the construction, completion, and commissioning of the Ikeja Bus Terminal.

“I would also like to acknowledge my predecessors in office starting from the pioneer Managing Director, Dr. Dayo Mobereola and Engr. Abiodun Dabiri for their roles in growing LAMATA. I equally acknowledge the labour of all former directors and staff of the organisation and I wish to assure them that the vision for LAMATA would be sustained,” Akinajo said.
