Lagos Police Officer Arraigned for Assaulting Teenage Girl Inside Station

A Lagos State police officer, identified as Owolabi, has been arraigned in court for allegedly assaulting a 17-year-old girl at the Ogudu Area Command premises. The officer was remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Facility on Tuesday, with the case adjourned to March 11 for legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The incident reportedly occurred on June 29 when the victim visited the station to report a stolen phone. According to reports, the officer allegedly lured her into his office under false pretenses before assaulting her.

In response, Mrs. Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, Head of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), praised the swift legal action, emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance stance on sexual violence.

“We commend the judiciary for ensuring due process in this case. This sends a strong message that no one is above the law, and offenders will be held accountable,” she said.

She also urged the public to report cases of sexual or domestic violence, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to justice for survivors.
