The Federal Government has officially begun disbursing the newly approved monthly allowance of ₦77,000 to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This development follows the initial approval in July 2024 to increase the corps members’ stipend from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000, in alignment with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
Despite earlier delays attributed to funding challenges, as noted by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the increased payments have now commenced. Corps members nationwide have confirmed receiving the updated allowance, expressing relief and appreciation for the government’s fulfillment of its commitment.
This increment reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing the welfare of corps members, acknowledging their contributions to national development. The timely implementation of the new allowance is anticipated to positively impact the morale and financial stability of the youths serving across the country.
