The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has emphasized the importance of safety consciousness at all times. He made this statement during an on-site assessment of the recent gas tanker explosion at Otedola Bridge, which occurred two days ago.
During the visit, the Commissioner reaffirmed that a “No Truck Allowed” road sign was clearly positioned at the accident corridor, yet the truck driver violated the regulation, resulting in the tragic inferno on Tuesday night. He stressed that this incident highlights the need for stricter enforcement and the deployment of enhanced technical safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
Beyond assessing the impact on transport infrastructure, the team also examined structural damages, including cracks on the bridge and surrounding facilities, to determine their integrity and safety.
Mr. Osiyemi called on heavy-duty vehicle operators to prioritize safety, compliance, and responsibility on Lagos roads. He urged them to adhere to existing regulations and work in partnership with the government to protect lives and property.
He reassured Lagosians that the state government remains fully committed to building a safer, more resilient, and well-regulated transport system for all.
