The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s recent criticisms of the party, urging him to move on with dignity rather than mask personal grievances as ideological concerns.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, El-Rufai claimed that APC had deviated from its founding ideals and had become a platform for personal interests. However, according to a press statement signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, Esq., the party maintains that his remarks are nothing more than a smokescreen for his disappointment over failing to secure a ministerial position in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“El-Rufai is now the very embodiment of the self-serving politics he once condemned. His claims about APC’s ideological shift exist only in his imagination,” the statement read.
APC questioned El-Rufai’s new alignment with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), asking how it represents the progressive values he claims to uphold. The party also dismissed his invitation to opposition figures, calling it a desperate attempt to stay politically relevant.
Defending President Tinubu’s leadership, APC highlighted key achievements, including the removal of fuel subsidies, exchange rate unification, increased foreign direct investment, and economic growth. According to the statement, under Tinubu, GDP surged to 3.8% in Q4 2024, trade surplus rose to $14.31 billion, and oil production increased to 1.8 million barrels per day.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to good governance and national development, adding that while El-Rufai is free to choose his political path, he should stop sulking, accept reality, and salvage some respectability.
