Agege LG Vice Chairman Withdraws from Chairmanship Race, Backs Obasa’s Son

The Vice Chairman of Agege Local Government Area in Lagos State, Mr. Oluwagbenga Abiola, has withdrawn from the July 12, 2025, chairmanship race. He announced his decision to step down in favor of Abdulganiyu Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday, Abiola emphasized that his withdrawal was voluntary and rooted in loyalty to Speaker Obasa, who he described as his political mentor. He dismissed claims that he was pressured to quit the race.

“I will never go against my leader, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. This is the man who made me,” Abiola said, recalling how the Speaker appointed him as Special Assistant on Media in 2015.

His decision comes after key stakeholders in Agege called on Speaker Obasa to support his son’s bid, citing the Speaker’s pivotal role in the area’s political development.

Abiola reaffirmed his allegiance to the party and pledged unwavering support for Obasa’s leadership.
