Nigeria Police Force Imposes Stringent Bail Conditions on Man Arrested After Breakup with DIG’s Daughter

The Nigeria Police Force has imposed stringent administrative bail conditions on David Nwokorie, who was arrested and detained following a breakup with Genevieve Opara, daughter of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Hilary Opara.

According to documents seen by this publication, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) has demanded two sureties for Nwokorie’s release. The conditions require that the sureties must either be Federal Government employees not below Grade Level 17, or businessmen with landed properties in Abuja covered by a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O). Alternatively, the sureties can be businessmen with registered companies and property within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) valued at no less than ₦500 million.

If the sureties presented are civil servants, they are required to submit letters of introduction from their respective organizations, valid identification cards, and other supporting documents. For those standing in as businessmen, the FCID demands copies of their Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration certificates, Certificates of Occupancy for the declared properties, and the original documents for verification.

In both instances, the sureties must also present their international passports and two recent passport-sized photographs.

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that Nwokorie’s arrest was allegedly triggered by messages he sent to Genevieve following their breakup. In the messages, he reportedly accused her of battling mental health challenges and being emotionally unhealed from a past relationship with a man based abroad. He also criticized her for entering a new relationship without genuine affection.

Nwokorie allegedly described Genevieve as “unteachable” and “hot-headed,” claiming she owed her current employment at the National Pension Commission to her father’s influence. In response, Genevieve accused him of cyberbullying, blackmail, and issuing threats to her life—allegations that ultimately led to police involvement.
