Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has hailed the renaming of the Ikeja Military Cantonment to T. A. Lagbaja Cantonment as a profound tribute to one of Nigeria’s most distinguished military officers, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, former Chief of Army Staff.
Speaking at the renaming ceremony today, Sanwo-Olu described the move as more than a change of title, emphasizing that it represents deep respect, gratitude, and recognition of Lagbaja’s courage and sacrifices for Nigeria.
“By naming it after Lieutenant General Lagbaja, we pay tribute to a leader whose life exemplified courage, discipline, and patriotism,” the governor said.
Lagbaja’s over three decades of service in the Nigerian Army saw him at the forefront of counterinsurgency, internal security, and peacekeeping operations—roles that earned him widespread respect within and beyond military circles.
Sanwo-Olu commended the Nigerian Army and the Ministry of Defence for the initiative, noting that it strengthens the culture of honoring national heroes and reassuring patriots that their sacrifices will not be forgotten.
