FG Fires Back At Sanusi: We Don’t Need Your Stamp Of Approval For Laudable Policies

The Federal Government has responded to recent comments made by His Highness, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, regarding the economic reforms introduced under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The Emir, speaking at a public event in Lagos, acknowledged the importance of the reforms but stated his decision “not to help the government.”

In a statement issued by Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, the government emphasized its commitment to bold reforms, while expressing disappointment at Sanusi’s reluctance to publicly support initiatives he has previously championed.

“Sanusi, like any Nigerian, has the right to express his views,” the statement read. “However, it is surprising that a leader who represents forthrightness and justice would openly admit to withholding truth for personal reasons.”

The government reiterated the necessity of its reforms, highlighting the positive impacts of policies such as the unification of exchange rates and the removal of fuel subsidies. According to the statement, these measures have boosted investor confidence, reduced inefficiencies, and enabled investments in critical sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

“The temporary challenges Nigerians face are the result of decades of mismanagement, not these reforms,” the statement added, citing projections from global institutions such as the World Bank, which show an upward trajectory in Nigeria’s GDP.

While the government acknowledged Emir Sanusi’s expertise in economics, it criticized his current stance as counterproductive. “Given his background, the Emir has a responsibility to contribute constructively rather than sow doubt for personal reasons,” Idris stated.

The administration urged national leaders to prioritize unity and collaboration during this critical period. “Rebuilding Nigeria requires courage, sacrifice, and collective effort. Divisive rhetoric only undermines public trust and hinders progress.”

The statement concluded with a call to action for all Nigerians: “Let history record this as a turning point where leaders and citizens worked together to secure a prosperous future for Nigeria.”

President Tinubu’s administration remains committed to fostering economic inclusivity and sustainability, promising to stay focused on delivering hope and progress for all Nigerians.
