Governor Monday Okpebholo has given approval for the hosting of Edo State Sports Festival, scheduled to hold in the month April this year.
The Executive Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Amadin Enabulele, disclosed this to journalists in Benin on Wednesday.
He said the sports fiesta will prepare the State’s contingents to the National Sports Festival, holding in Ogun State in May, 2025.
The Sports Commission boss disclosed that the Board is put in place to take sports development in the State to the next level.
He acalled for the cooperation of all staff and athletes. He, however, urged the workers and athletes to imbibe the culture of discipline in order to excell in whatever they do in their chosen field, for the overall good of the State Sports Commission.
“Let me congratulate everyone for the successful completion of the three days fitness exercise which marked the beginning of our sporting activities this year and I want to urge us to be more focused on our job here. Let us remain committed.
“It is festival year and we have a lot to do, beginning with zonal elimination, preceding the National Sports Festival, maintenance of facilities and welfare of athletes and staff.
“We need your cooperation and I want you to know that my doors are open for important ideas and suggestions on how to develop our sports,” he said.
Enabulele who gave assurance of the Commission’s readiness to reward hard work by members of staff and state athletes, promised to promptly address whatever challenges they face in the course of their work.
Earlier in her remarks, the Director of Sports Development and Operations, Mrs Efe Amenze, disclosed that the workers are happy that the Chairman is starting on a strong footing, with developmental programmes.
Amenze who wished Enabulele a successful tenure, assured him of the collaboration and cooperation of the management staff and others.
