Thirty-five members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, supporting the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, appeared at the Lagos State High Court on Friday, February 28, for the hearing of a lawsuit filed by Obasa.
Obasa had approached the court to challenge his removal by at least 36 lawmakers on January 13, 2025, while he was reportedly out of the country. In his application dated February 12, 2025, filed by his lawyer, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), Obasa claimed his removal was unlawful.
The lawmakers, led by Speaker Mojisola Meranda, were represented by senior lawyers including Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), Femi Falana (SAN), Muiz Banire (SAN), and Abimbola Akeredolu (SAN).
Meanwhile, the House condemned an attempt by Obasa and three other lawmakers to convene a plenary session on Thursday, describing it as unconstitutional.
In a statement by its spokesman, Hon. Steve Ogundipe, the House reaffirmed its support for Speaker Meranda and dismissed rumours of her resignation, pledging to uphold parliamentary integrity and work in the interest of Lagosians.
